Propel East Named Best Music Education Community

Propel East has been named one of America’s Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation.  NAMM Foundation representative, Mark Despotakis, presented the designation of this honor at Propel East’s band concert on June 4.

Propel East was one of five Western Pennsylvania schools selected from a total of 237 applicants who were surveyed nationwide, an honor shared with affluent school districts like Mt. Lebanon, Fox Chapel, and North Allegheny.  Schools that received the “Best Communities” designation scored in the 80th percentile or higher in the survey’s grading process, and responses were verified with district officials and advisory organizations reviewed the data.

In the 2010-11 school year, Propel East was awarded the Charles Gray Award from Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, which recognizes excellence in arts education. This was the second Charles gray award Propel received as a district; the first to Propel Montour in 2009. A fully-valued arts program is one of Propel’s foundational principles for achieving success.
